Writer's Block: Step into My Closet

The best way to start any conversation about me and shoes is to first explain that I have a love hate relationship with them and with my feet.
I have square block feet with narrow heels, wide insteps and high arches. I grew up walking on my toes or being admonished not to walk on my toes and have the awkward rolling gait of someone who has been trained to walk in a different way that is natural for them. When I'm pysically exhausted I drag the toes of my left foot.
Needless to say, finding shoes that fit me has never been easy.
When I wanted a cute pair of jelly sandles at age eight, or shiny patent leather mary janes at eleven I got saddle shoes. Specially ordered, cost an arm and a leg my family probably couldn't afford, saddle shoes.
I remember hating them, and that impression has colored my view of shoes ever since; in other words i hate shoes.
That said, I have probably seventeen pairs of shoes in my closet, or scattered in my livingroom, today. I have black boots, brown boots and tan fUggs. I have black mules and brown mules. I have work boots, flip flops and four pairs of tennis shoes in different styles. I have character shoes in three colors (including silver ones that I wore in my friend Melissa's wedding), jazz shoes, ballet flats and slippers, fuzzy pink ones.
I wear the boots to work occasionally when it's wet, and the work boots are in a box under my desk in case I need to go in field. The mules alternate daily, depending on what color I'm wearing and if I'm out on my day off I wear the flip flops or tennis shoes to work out. The slippers have become the property of the cat and the dance shoes live at the bottom of the shoe bin but they were expensive and who knows I might do another musical someday.
On average, I wear two of my seventeen pairs of shoes 90 percent of the time; but if I had the choice... I wouldn't even wear those. See above RE: I hate shoes.
