Better Sort of Resolution
Dec. 23rd, 2009 02:00 pmResolutions are something I make and fail to keep - still I make them and then I am always disappointed when I look at my year and my failure. I was reading something that I don't remember anymore about these women who had an idea to replace resolutions.
It struck me as an intriguing idea at the time and after mulling it over I think I'm going to try it.
So instead of making resolutions I will inevitably fail at, I am going to pick a word that will guide me through the year. A touchstone. A reminder not of specific hopes I had while drunk on New Years Eve but of the sense of what I would like my year to be for me.
I'll still be doing things, and trying to make change happen in my life but without the limitation of a list.
I've looked at lists of words and let them percolate to see if any resonated. I've held one in my head for a day to see if it changed my perceptions and reactions. I've picked up, tried on and discarded words and then picked them up and tried again.
I have settled on: Release.
We'll see what happens.
