'I got recruited the exact same way you did. And when the last Middleman hired me, he never said and I never asked. Ida was already there; so were all the weapons and gadgets and things. Sometimes a box comes in with more weapons and gadgets and things. I don’t know where they come from. They just do. Maybe Ida runs the show, maybe it’s the conspiracy. Maybe it’s God. I’m just the Middleman.'

Name: His name is the same as his fathers. You can call him The Middleman.

Character Fandom: The Middleman (TV and Comics)

Canonical Point of Entry: The end of Episode 12: The Palindrome Reversal Palidrome after getting Wendy back from the mirror universe.

Physical Description: Good, clean cut, All American man with perfect posture in a blonde, blue eyed, 6 foot 2 inch, muscled package. Also he may or may not have pillow lips, you can judge for yourself.

Background: The Middleman's real name and past is unknown to anyone, save Ida, and how much she knows (aside from his name) is unclear. From things he'd said we know some of his past and current interests but he is primarily an enigma.

He went to Ann Harbor High School, graduating around 1992, he went to college though where and what he studied are unknown and joined the Navy soon after. He played high school football, as a linebacker - his job was to guard the quarterback. During a game his senior year he was distracted, thinking about a girl who had given him a mix tape and the haunting strains of that Bryan Adams song from Robin Hood and didn't do his job. He has never forgotten the lesson he learned that day.

He was a Navy SEAL prior to joining the Middle-organization. His team got stuck in a colossal hairy fur ball in the Gulf and his jerk CO radioed for him to bug out and leave his men behind. He did what any self-respecting squid would do; saved his men, got back to the base, and kicked the crud out of the little weasel who had ordered him to leave them behind. Not long after that he left the Navy and was recruited by the previous Middleman.

He enjoys country music, needlepoint, and old movies - primarily westerns. His favorite movie is Ride Lonesome, he has seen the beginning sixteen times, though he has never seen the end.

It has been implied that he has loved and lost, and appears unwilling to put someone he cares about in a position where they could be injured, killed, or turned into an evil henchperson ever again.

Even though much of his life is a mystery, his character is unmistakable.

Personality: The Middleman is a 'Dirk Squarejaw' character. He is the all American hero and a callback to heroes of more innocent times. He hardly ever swears, though he has devised several inventive ways of expressing himself when the occasion requires.

He is the epitome of an upright, forthright, right of way yielding man. He is rugged, dorky, and he drinks his four glasses of milk every day - after all it builds strong bodies.

He has a self professed problem with authority and likes to keep the old heroes alive, he is selfless, vice-less and an all around nice guy.

The Job: The Middleman is a freelance fixer of 'exotic problems', which include mad scientists bent on taking over the world, hostile aliens and various supernatural threats. He fights comic book evil - so you don't have to. His assignments are decided by the shadowy O2STK and he is assisted by Ida and Wendy under the guise of working for the Jolly Fats Wehawkin Employment Agency.

He has a great deal of knowledge of aliens, monsters, and androids, as well as speaking 17 earth based languages. His one area of weakness is magic, the supernatural, the Dark Arts, things that go bump, anathema.

The Middle-mandate is to protect the people from threats intra-, extra-, and juxtaterrestrial, not to become consumed with the mundane problems of every day life.
