Disclaimer: This journal is intended for roleplaying purposes at
Name: Michael Joseph Patrick Carpenter, seriously just call him Michael
Character Fandom: Dresden Files
Canonical Point of Entry: After the events of Small Favor. His injuries per the text are: severe trauma to his liver, loss of one kidney, damage to his spine, collapsed lung, pelvis broken in two places, shattered jaw, damage to one ocular cavity (with the potential to lose an eye), subdural hematoma (with potential for brain damage) and a fractured rib that spread bone fragments to his heart. Miraculously he's in stable condition at the end of the book.
For the purposes of this RP journal, he has survived mostly intact and is in the midst of mucho intensive physical therapy to increase strength, movement and dexterity when he gets brought to the village. That's my story and I'm sticking to it until Jim decides to tell me otherwise.
And if he disagrees I'm using my saving throw to make it rain frogs on his house.
[You might not get that joke, but the Dresden fans and dice gamers do, just believe it was funny and move on.]
Physical Description: Michael is a big man, tall and broad-shouldered, his close-cut hair is dark and feathered with silver kept in an almost military short style. His face is broad and honest, his jaw strong, graced with a warriors beard, not yet threaded with silver, close cropped and well groomed and his eyes are the color of a storm cloud. He is well built, with solid musculature and obvious strength of body, and soul. He has a nice voice, rich and steady both speaking and singing.
Background: Michael is (among other things) a Knight of the Cross, the Knights are those chosen to wield one of three holy swords that God sent to Earth. The swords serve the righteous for a just cause; each is reputed to bear a nail from Christ's crucifixion inside the hilt.
He is an expert tactician and hand-to-hand fighter, and he also possesses some spiritual power of his own; an aura of faith surrounds him, protecting him from the touch of beings like vampires while his touch can burn their flesh, additionally his sword acts as a foci for his faith, and seems able to harm any supernatural being.
Being a Knight of the Cross isn't exactly a well paying job, luckily he is an experienced carpenter and construction worker, constantly improving on his house to hold his growing family, and when not on God's business runs a small contracting company out of his den.
He met his wife, Charity, in one of those quirky ‘day at the office’ stories; she had been traded to the dragon Siriothrax by a warlock cult leader, Michael rescued her and by her own admission saved her life then (and after). They were married not long after and had their first child, soon followed by their second.. their third.. you get the idea. They have seven children; Molly, Daniel, Matthew, Alicia, Amanda, Hope and Harry (named after Harry Dresden much to Charity’s chagrin).
He hides it well usually but he longs to be able to do the ‘normal’ things; teach his youngest son to ride a bike, go to his daughter’s softball games, shower with his wife and read bedtime stories.
He was badly injured in a battle against a group of the Fallen and is in recovery when he arrives in the village.
Personality: Michael is a devout man, praying frequently, for guidance, protection (not only for himself) and strength. The main tenet of his life is love, for his God, his family, his friends, even the Fallen who he has waged a war against for more than two decades.
He is an honest man, who has seen much evil and still believes in the power of God and that ultimately good will prevail. His soul is one that would make even a good man weep if he caught a glimpse.
The Sword: There are three swords, whose Latin names represent the three prominent Christian virtues: Love, Faith and Hope; Michael's sword Amoracchius represents love. It is a broadsword, and there has been speculation that the sword may actually be Excalibur and was stewarded by Merlin at one time, it has never been altered or reforged like the other two have.
They cannot be touched by "unclean" beings, although this protection can be disabled if the bearer attempts to use them in a dishonorable or evil way; the only known way to destroy a Sword is to use it to kill a truly innocent being.
