On Location
Sep. 24th, 2010 11:04 amI don't fault shows for filming in Vancouver or LA or wherever when the setting of the show is somewhere else. I get that production costs are cheaper and talent and technical staff are more abundant in areas with bustling film and television industries.
Normally it doesn't bother me when New York, isn't or Colorado is Canada or the midwest looks suspiciously like the Palm Dessert - but normally a show isn't set in the town I live in.
The Mentalist however IS primarily set here in Sacramento, which makes me giddy when like last night for the Season Premier I can actually recognize places - not just recognize point and go, I sat on that bench and had lunch on Monday.Granted I'd appreciate if the writers got a map occasionally as there have been times when people were at intersections of streets that don't intersect and it's apparently a short drive from here to the Bay Area, or to Fresno when the reality is much much longer.
In any case there was all kinds of on location scenes last night, and not just B-roll stuff, we're talking Tim Kang in a pair of well worn jeans sitting by the fugly ass Tower Bridge (oh and Robin Tunney and Simon Baker too). I just hope they didn't shoot their on location wad in one episode because I don't know if I can deal with another season of trying to pretend LA is Sacramento.
