Procrastination Station
Jun. 26th, 2011 10:29 pmThe last few years I've tried to do NANOWRIMO and failed, at least partially because I go into the whole thing with a vague idea cobbled together on October 31st and then realize half way through that I don't have a resolution, or a climax or some other important bit of storytelling.
The is why I write fanfic, its episodic. And a plot is rarely required to do something people will enjoy.
So this year instead of waiting until the eleventh hour and jumping off the 50,000 word cliff on November 1st I'm going to set up a plan of action.
July - Plot Outline: This of course requires an idea, so its not gonna be easy. In theory I could just try to write the novel I've been trying to write for five years but where's the fun in that. So I guess the first question I have to answer is.. what do I want to write? And does anyone care?
August - Character Profiles: I have this problem when creating my own characters that they keep secrets from me. Ironic that I feel like I know characters that other people write and I see on TV or in movies than those I create. But then I don't share much of myself with others so... why should they.
September - Research. Whatever the plot is, or whoever the characters end up being I'm going to need to know something about something.
October - Time to story board, put scenes ideas together and align with the outline/chop into chapters.
November - Write the damn thing.
Simple right?
