I would...
1. Put $500k into a medium risk/yield stock/bond thingy - I dunno what... this is why I pay a financial advisor.
2. Pay off my car, my mortgage, student loans etc - probably about $175k.
3. Upgrade my condo for renting - wood floors, overhead light in the bedroom, built in washer/dryer - $20k mostly for the plumbing needed for the washer dryer. Upside - new monthly income after HOA dues etc probably $400 bucks if I rent cheap.
4. Buy a house, my guess for something small in one of the older neighborhoods with decorating as I don't have close to enough furniture for a house $210k.
5. Buy a small hybrid SUV and teardrop camper or a vintage VW CamperVan to go camping with - yes I know I'm a dork - $85k
6. First class trip to somewhere cool. There is this hotel in NYC that is a library... $10k
