Dear Yuletide Author
Nov. 17th, 2011 06:24 pmDear You
You're probably here looking for more about me, what I like in a fic, and why I chose the fandoms I chose. Hopefully your questions shall be answered but if not, I promise I don't bite if you want to ask.
At least I don't bite hard.
This is nothing but a collection of ideas, thoughts and the odd bit of random information - the highest priority request I have is to use your imagination and write something that inspires you, that you enjoy writing. I'm sure to enjoy it as a result. My favorite fic is something that explores the written word, a character, a relationship, a location - anything - and makes me think as a result. I like ideas that surprise me and force me to reconsider my conception of things. Het, slash, gen, it's pretty much all good for me as long as it is well written.
My dislikes are probably fairly usual, non-con, incest and too much gore.
These are in whatever order they ended up in...
Lost Girl - Bo, Dyson, Kenzi
Details - Would love a buddy fic with Kenzi and Bo getting Dyson into trouble. Or a look at his relationship with Kenzi in S2. Some sort of fun light hearted romp. Prefer Gen or Het.
Additional Info - There is something addictive about a show where I am constantly surprised at how they resolve the story and the way they blend mythology into modern stories. Admittedly Dyson is a favorite of mine, the bits of his backstory that we have been given and the way he views violence are intruiging and hint at a bigger story begging to be told.
Persuasion (Jane Austen) - Frederick Wentworth, Anne Elliot
Details - Couples as a theme. Young Anne and Frederick. Married life. Whatever strikes your fancy.
Additional Info - I adored this book when I first read it, I saw the movie on TV on 9/11 and went looking for the book the next day because I felt like watching anything other than the news had kept me sane the day before. Not only was the story compelling but the author wove it all into a setting that she was intimately familiar with which gave it an added life. I soon had a copy at work, one at home and another on hand to give to people. This novel is about relationships, the story unfolding revolves around the people - all of whom are flawed and gloriously human - their relationships to each other, and their relationships with themselves and their surroundings.
Blade (Movie Series) - Hannibal King, Abigail Whistler, Danica Talos, Asher Talos
Details - How did Hannibal survive Danica & Asher. What was it Abby saw in him that made her think he was worth saving? How does he live with the memories of what you can only imagine they did to him.
Additional Info - I have always loved Hannibal King, in the movies they made him snappier and more funny than in the comics but kept the same edge to him and the darkness that comes from what he's endured and it made me wonder about so many things that they never answered.
Haven - Dwight Hendrickson
Details - I'm drawn to the fixer who we only know a little bit about, his time in the Middle East, his daughter, his daily life. Gen/Het/Slash welcome.
Additional Info - Haven is something I learned to love. Gradually appreciating the depth in storytelling and in the characters - liberally spiced with a bit of scifi for flavor. The characters are written as real people, with real flaws and desires. They make mistakes, they believe in things deeply and they die. They are not perfect.
Hope all that helps, or at least makes sense.
