Exam Update
Jul. 27th, 2009 11:43 pmSo... some of you may (or may not) remember that last year around this time I started the process to becoming a licensed civil engineer. In California this requires that you:
1. Pass a test called the EIT (Engineer in Training)
2. Get an engineering degree
3. Work for at least 2 (it might be 3) years with someone licensed
4. Pass an 8 hour national exam
5. Pass a CA specific surveying exam - 2.5 hours
6. Pass a CA specific seismic exam - 2.5 hours
I think they wanted to add 'jump through a hoop backward' but decided that the application to apply for the exams was enough.
Anyway - back in October '08 I took the 8 hour national exam after studying for months. I passed but didn't pass (nor did I study for) the other two. This, I feel the need to point out, will make you a licensed engineer in like.. 46 states.
These two remaining exams I took in April '09. I took a class. I studied, though admittedly not as hard as I studied for the 8 hour exam. I just didn't have the energy for it what with the new job and all.
I honestly didn't think I'd passed. Honestly. I have been prepping myself not to have passed for weeks. I have been preping my boss and my friends and my family. I didn't pass. Will take it again in a year - October is just too soon.
So they mailed out the results Thursday/Friday and I was gone all weekend in SoCal. Barely thought about it even though people kept asking me today. Got home around 11pm from the airport checked the mail not planning on looking - but who was I kidding.
Literally SCREAMED in the parking lot.
"I PASSED!! HOLY SHIT I PASSED!!"
My neighbors probably hate me but... I PASSED!
